Orange Shirt Day in the Daycare

September 29, 2025

Today we celebrated Truth and Reconciliation Day in our classroom.

We painted orange shirts, read our Orange Shirt Day book, and brought out our Indigenous finger puppets to play with. Although the children may not fully understand what this day means yet, we can model its importance through our actions and create opportunities for them to participate in meaningful activities throughout the day.

How does this apply to NBCF?

Play and Playfulness (Imagination and Creativity):

As the babies explored the paint during our orange shirt activity, they engaged in sensory play that encouraged creativity, self-expression, and curiosity. This type of exploration supports their natural drive to learn through play.

Inclusiveness and Equity (Respecting Diversity):

By introducing elements of Indigenous culture through stories, finger puppets, and activities we are laying a foundation of inclusiveness and respect for diversity. While the children may not yet grasp the full meaning of Truth and Reconciliation, these early experiences help model values of empathy, respect, and equity.
